I was born and raised in New Jersey in the small township of Irvington. I was blessed to come from a strong, hardworking and balanced family who believed in me and supported me in all my endeavors.
At 14 years old my cousin and I started a Christian babysitting company because we didn’t want to have to ask our parents for money. This appeared to be the perfect and most ideal business for a young teenager with limited resources and lots of support. But my cousin and I were determined to create opportunities for ourselves and we were not in the business of waiting for people to provide us with them. Thus after marketing at our local church, to friends and family C.B.S.(Christian Babysitting Service) was born.
My real dream was to write speeches for the President. I started writing poetry and several monologues, I even won a few competitions. I had my sights set on attending Columbia University and majoring in Journalism and Creative Writing. I graduated high school, but I was not off to Columbia but I gathered my belongings and headed South to North Carolina State University, Raleigh, NC. I began taking writing classes and realized I did not like writing about other people’s stuff as much as I liked freely writing about my own, So I figured if I was going to write about politics I better know something about it, so I switched my major to Political Science. After graduation, I moved back home to Jersey and got a job in the field of Human Service. I absolutely loved and enjoyed my job of helping children and families.
At this point I had it all (so I thought), a rewarding profession, a wonderful husband and a beautiful daughter. God then decided to bless us with another addition to our family. I found out I was pregnant and it was here on bed rest and maternity leave that I found out that I had a love for baking. Growing up my mother and I often made lots of box made brownies and cakes but never from scratch. During my nestling time with my little bundle of joy, I began to make cakes in different shapes and sizes. I then began to make cupcakes and it was like eureka, I found what I loved.
A few months later my husband and I relocated back to North Carolina. A few weeks after settling in to our new digs, I decided I needed to pick up a hobby, so I decided to start baking. One day my husband came home from work and I told him that I wanted to open a bakery that specialized in custom flavored cupcakes. He said “okay”. With practically no resources and little to no personal connections I went down to my local city hall and asked what I needed to do to start my own business. That night I started on what would be my website and looked for every avenue of selling my cupcakes. I ordered business cards and flyers and was off to figure out how to make this whole thing work.
I must admit I have had many up’s and downs, Learning this business and understanding how to create the best business model and marketing campaign did not come without many errors but with the help of God and the support of my friends and family I slowly kept working.
Now we are living our dream, of creating the best custom flavored cupcakes possible. I continue to walk by faith and not by sight and believe that I can do all things through Christ with Strengthens me!
I am excited to find out what God has in store for me and the KupKakes Drive Me Krazy family. Until then we will continue to serve our every customer's need for cupcakes and other delicious baked goods...
